Sunday, November 08, 2009Pattypan and Spaceship BeadsBegun during a typical conversation, the variant being that I was as if called on the carpet for doing things as I have been doing them. Was seated on a straightback chair in a little shop, with an elderly lady resting to my left: Lady: What's that you're doing there? Me: Drawing. (Show her, with smile) Lady: (Intrigued, but skeptical/suspicious) What are you going to do with this? Me: Put it through a computer scanner and post it on the Web Lady: Yes, but then what are you going to do with it? What's it for? Me: (Gently) Well, people can look at it and enjoy it, and if they want to, they can e-mail me and ask the price of the piece. Sometimes I post prices. There was two or three times more of this conversation, in the same vein, before she subsided. Clearly she found my actions incomprehensible. The title is because the object at upper left resembles a pattypan squash, and the largest object a spaceship. Date: Summer 2009 Dimensions: 3" X 5" Support: Index stock Media: Mechanical pencil |
