Tuesday, February 07, 2006Toxic Waste, GoopliancesToxic Waste was drawn in a 3-hour session last Sunday at the cafe next to the local bookery. Some called it strange, some called it beautiful. One friend referred me to the Edward Burtynsky article in the February 2006 Art in America. Did a lot of erasure to get the pale colors. Prismacolors on bristol board don't erase very readily, but the ghost left behind was in this case desirable. Goopliances was drawn right after Toxic Waste, in the early evening, begun at my usual cafe and completed at home, in part while listening to the 2nd movement of Mendelssohn's D Minor Trio, a sublimely pretty air ... Had to look at a door hinge to get it right in the picture. Both pieces are on 11" X 14" Bristol board. Labels: image |
